Getting Started
I just set up my site. Where do I begin?
Don't worry at first about building the perfect website, just worry about making a change to some text on the home page on your new website. Once you have successfully made a change you will see how easy it was, and be ready to start working with pictures, multiple webpages and more.
To make a change to a web page, just click on the pencil. This will cause a page editor to appear. It will look somewhat like Microsoft Word. Just pretend you are in Word, make some simple text changes, and click the "Update" button when you are done.
How do I make changes to my webpages?
Click the pencil. This will put the current page into an editor. Make your changes, and then you click the Update button.
What is my website address?
You were assigned a website address when you set up your website. It was the single word that you were given when you set up your website, followed by ".talkspot.com". If someone asks what your website address is, you tell them it is: xxx.talkspot.com, where you replace the xxx with the word that you specified when you set up your website. Many people expect website addresses to begin with www, so you may also specify your website address as www.xxx.talkspot.com. Try it in your browser, you will also see that this works.
Nothing happens when I go to my website. Help!
What do you expect to happen? Websites are not magic. Think of your website as an online brochure for your service or product. Just as a print brochure might consist of several pages, so might your website. To build your website, just focus on one page at a time. You can put pictures, audio, video, surveys, and much more on any page of your website. Just focus on creating one page at a time.
What is the little pencil for? (and, the C and the X)?
Clicking the pencil causes you to enter the Talkspot Webpage Editor
Clicking on the C makes a copy of the current webpage
Clicking on the X causes the current webpage to be deleted
How do I publish my website to the Internet (make it live)?
Your site is already live on the internet. Your site is ALWAYS live on the internet. You can give your website address to your customers now.
How do I hide the administrator tools?
The tools you see, that allow you to make changes to your website, such as the Admin Menu, only appear for persons who are logged into the system, and have administrator rights. To see how your site will look to others, Log Out of your website. To Log Out, look around on your webpage for the words Log Out after your name. Usually this is in the footer bar at the bottom of your webpage.
How do I get rid of the editing tools?
The editing tools (the Admin Menu, the C, X and the pencil) will appear forever, but ONLY for you. They will not appear to visitors to your site. To prove this to yourself, try logging off (just click on the words Log Off at the bottom of at the bottom of the screen). Once you log off the editing tools will disappear. It is a good idea to Log off once in a while, just so you can see your website the way visitors will see it. To log back in just click on the copyright notice in the lower left corner.
