         Navigation (Links and Menus)

  • What is Website Navigation, and why would I want to do that?
    • It is possible to have text or pictures on your webpages that link to other sites or to other pages on your own site.

To add a link to another website, look for this icon in the editor:

99% of the time, there are only three boxes in the dialog that pop up that you will be concerned with. 1) Put the address of the website you want to go to in the box labeled URL, 2) Put any text you want displayed on the webpage into the box labeled 'Link Text', and 3) Select "New Window" for the target.

To link to a a page on your website, there are two different approaches. The simplest is to add a menu to to your website. We recommend you watch the videos on menus and linking.  For information, click here to go to the videos page.

If you want to exactly control webpage navigation, you can make any piece of text, or picture, jump to another webpage. For more information, watch this video on navigating between webpages:

Click here to watch a short video.

Note: Allow 1 to 2 minutes for the video to download on high-speed internet connections.

  • How do I add a menu to my website?
    • On the Administration Panel, Choose Preferences, and then Appearance. Select Vertical Menu or Horizontal Menu. All webpages will automatically be added to the menu. For more information on using the Appearence command, click here and watch the layouts video.

If you have your automatic menus turned off, when you add a webpage to your site, it doesn't automatically appear. You need to add a link to navigate to your new webpage from some existing webpage.

If your menus are turned on, then your new webpage will appear in the menu as "New Webpage", unless it is a page type other than "Blank Page".  If this is the case, it will be labeled as such.
